Step-Up Regulator Power Ground
Step-Up Regulator Switching Node. Drain of the internal n-channel MOSFET between LX and
PGND. Connect the inductor and catch diode here and minimize trace area for lowest EMI.
PWM Signal Input. This PWM signal is used for brightness control in direct-PWM mode or DPST mode
of SMBus mode. In direct-PWM mode, the DPWM duty cycle is equal to the input PWM duty cycle. In
DPST mode, the DPWM duty cycle is the input PWM duty cycle multiplied by the SMBus brightness
command. PWMI directly controls the LED current source on or off in direct-PWM mode.
Direct-PWM Mode Enable Pin. When direct-PWM mode is selected through the DFSET pin, the
MAX17105 can start up with direct-PWM mode by EN = high.
SMBus Serial Clock Input
SMBus Serial Data Input
DPWM Frequency Adjustment Pin. Connect a resistor from DFSET to SGND to set the internal
DPWM frequency in SMBus mode. In direct-PWM mode, DFSET pin is connected to SGND:
f DPWM = 200Hz O 250k I /R DFSET
The acceptable resistance range is 10k I < R DFSET < 500k I , which corresponds to the DPWM
frequency of 5kHz > f DPWM > 100Hz.
Exposed Backside Pad. Solder to the circuit board ground plane with sufficient copper connection
to ensure low thermal resistance. See the PCB Layout Guidelines section.
